KICKBASS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SOLUTIONS

The KICKBASS Conical Energy Plant:  Unified Generation & Resilient Storage

The ENode is a next-generation utility structure engineered to solve municipal energy gridlock. While it leverages industry-standard, battle-tested thermodynamic components, its breakthrough lies in complete on-site colocation. Within a single, heavily fortified 90-foot hexagonal footprint, the ENode seamlessly collects solar energy, stores it securely in water arrays, and deploys it via a closed-loop Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system.  By unifying collection, multi-day backup storage, and dispatchable generation into one secure building, the ENode eliminates grid transmission losses and provides true energy independence without the degradation or safety risks of traditional chemical batteries.

This energy solution was originally and specifically designed to meet Naperville's immediate and long-term energy requirements.  However, it will be clear the application of this solution could go well beyond Naperville.

Innovative Tech Solutions

Naperville Energy Needs

Naperville's Basic Energy Requirements:

  • 160 MW Average draw
  • 343 MW Peak demand
  • No Land for Solar
  • No Chemical Batteries
  • 0 Emissions

KICKBASS ENODE SOLUTION

  • Originally sized with 24 KB Enodes at 15 MW each = 360 MW placed in or around current substations with a 7-day nominal emergency backup supply of capacity.  However, it appears the right sized solution would actually be to select as much collection, storage and generating capacity as deemed necessary at each substation or designated area.  This may be closer to 10 MW each.  This solution scales to sizing constraints. The number of buildings could be reduced and the capacity lowered depending on optimum strategic positioning.
  • The ability to meet demand over peak capacity is also built into the system.
  • This solution is using water as the battery.
  • This solution uses no chemical batteries.
  • No Land will have to be purchased for solar fields.
  • Each building runs unattended and is run by automated systems.
  • There are no harmful emissions.

Benefits of Our Solution

  • Excess warm water is available to melt sidewalks and streets and to share with local green houses and schools via our Reverse-Return Manifold system.  It provides enough warm water to melt up to 7 miles of sidewalks or streets, or to help warm local green houses or schools.

  • Originally designed with a 7-day backup built into the system.  The final sizing of the water storage at each facility will dictate exactly how much actual capacity is available.

  • Unlocked the 50% Federal Cash Incentives for green building since most of the selected components are American made.

Low-Risk High-Reward

Our solution is low-risk high-reward solution.  It pulls the safest and best materials and processes known to work in the Midwest from 3 technology disciplines:

  • Turbine - Generating Electricity from a Vapor
  • Solar - Collection Our Energy from the Sun
  • Concentrated Solar - Storing Solar Energy into Water

Even though this is a somewhat radical innovation, all of the underlying technologies already exist and work.  There will be things to learn when configuring a new architectural system, but the engineers should be able to work them out.

Revolutionary Energy Solutions

Initially we stopped this project twice.  Once in analysis when we determined it would be hard to imagine a solution that could provide a cheaper solution than buying energy on the open market in the future.  The competition is fierce and supply is growing.  But we kept going just to see what we could come up with anyways.  Surprisingly, we were able to come up with a solution that would not only beat the market but would actually make money.  Not only would it save Napervillians $405 Million over the first five years, but it would also become a city revenue generator once the municipal green bonds were paid off starting sometime in the 6th year.

Secondly, we stopped when we got to the no land for solar requirements.  It just didn't seem possible.  But then by innovation, we rounded our building and placed the solar panels around the exterior.  This was enough solar energy source to supply our system.  Each building provided about 1 acre of solar collection.  And we did it all without the use of chemical batteries.  Therefore, we finally had a workable solution.

The Solar Deficit Mitigation

In our current solution, during the darkest months of the year, we do not collect enough solar energy to keep each building running at full strength without some assistance.  These buildings are able to collect and generate some of the demand but not enough to cover it all.  There are at least two options to cover this deficit, the first is buy cheap energy on the market which is used to charge your batteries when the rates are the lowest.  The second option is the Fuel Cell option.  We have configured an optional fuel cell for each structure that would cover this operational deficit. Unfortunately, doing the math, the payback period for the fuel cell is 60 years because the available electricity is so cheap in the off hours it's hard to justify. So, the fuel cell option could be selected for mission critical areas if warranted, but if not, supplement with low-cost rates.  Also, if fuel cells are used there is a side benefit of producing medical grade oxygen during the warmer months.

Value Proposition for Naperville

  1. $405 Million Kept Locally: These immense operational savings can be passed directly to residents to lower monthly electrical bills or fund critical municipal services.
  2. True Land Preservation: The 24 towers fit inside existing industrial utility fences, preserving 100% of Naperville's local parks, forests, and neighborhoods.
  3. Unmatched Grid Resilience: Spreading power across 24 separate points ensures that if one tower undergoes maintenance, 96% of the city's grid remains fully energized.
  4. Approximate 6-Year Cost Recovery: At Year 5.87, cumulative energy savings fully reach $485,000,000, meaning the asset completely self-funds its own construction debt without a single cent added to local property or sales taxes.

Alignment with Naperville's Real-World Power Load

  • Routine Daily Baseload Integration: Naperville requires a continuous, 24/7 baseline power draw of 160 Megawatts (MW), resulting in roughly 3,860 Megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity consumed every day. Running simultaneously at baseline capacity, the 24 distributed KB Enode towers output a steady 160 MW floor, handling the city's entire routine daily layout on 100% clean energy.
  • Catastrophic Peak Demand Abatement: During extreme weather events (such as hot summer afternoons driven by residential air conditioning), Naperville's power grid demand surges to a maximum recorded peak of 343 MW.
  • The Surge Mitigation: The 24 towers feature a maximum combined engine capacity of 320 MW (We run our generators at 88% on a daily basis, 15 MW * .88 = 13.33 MW). To seamlessly bridge the final 23 MW gap during a peak grid emergency, the automated hydro-pneumatic water cores instantly discharge their stored pressure loops. This prevents localized grid strain, safeguards the city's 16 substations, and guarantees 100% uptime without requiring the city to purchase expensive, peak-rate electricity from the regional market.

10 YEAR OUTLOOK

THE SOVEREIGN FINANCIAL EVENT HORIZON:

The true cost of rejecting the KB Enode or a similar solution is permanent, unmitigated capital flight. Under the current structural paradigm, the city of Naperville continuously exports taxpayer dollars out of the community to satisfy external power contract frameworks.

Implementing the KB Enode or a similar advanced thermal infrastructure creates a finite, highly predictable 6-year capital amortization track. Once the physical asset clears its build cost at Year 6, all debt is completely erased. Every single megawatt generated from Year 7 through the system's 50-year structural lifecycle represents pure, unencumbered municipal revenue. After Year 6, the power is effectively free, and the cash is retained locally to fund schools, roads, and community services.

Even though the KB Enode system would be self-sufficient, it is highly advised to maintain a grid connection as a secondary or tertiary backup and to recharge batteries when prices are low during the off-peak hours or in the darkest winter months when the days are short.

CAPITAL DISPOSITION & SITE LICENSING:

Project CapEx, individualized site-delivery amortization schedules, and Tier-1 component manufacturing cost sheets are restricted under corporate non-disclosure protocols. Detailed infrastructure investment packages are available strictly to verified municipal boards, utility originators, and primary potential enterprise partners upon formal design group outreach.

Evacuated Solar Collectors

Our solution would be compatible with Evacuated Solar Panels made by SunMaxx Solar out of Bainbridge, NY.

ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) Turbines

Our solution uses the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) electrical generator as our primary workhorse.  These generators are scalable to the overall demand structure.  The best available ORC systems are coming from Europe, so they would most likely be imported.  Our solution would be compatible with the Turboden ORC lineup.

WATER STORAGE

We have identified several large tank manufacturers right here in the US as a potential supplier partners of our water storage needs. Caldwell Tanks out of Louisville, KY makes several tanks that would be compatible with our storage needs.

Water and Gas Manifolds

We have identified Several US Manufacturing Companies as potential supplier partners for our water and vapor manifold needs.  Rheem Manufacturing Company is just one of the many US companies that makes the manifold equipment that would be compatible with our system.
